House Bill 7031 Eliminates Sales Tax on Commercial Leases

Effective October 1, 2025, business leasing commercial property will be exempt from sales tax on the leases. The bill applies to state tax as well as any local discretionary sales surtaxes. This measure is aimed at enticing more businesses to open shop in Florida as well as provide much needed tax breaks to business owners.
Florida sales tax was reduced to 2% in recent months but now, business owners will soon notice a reduction in their monthly payment by at least 2%. Other municipalities and counties also impose taxes on commercial property ranging from 1-2% on average. In Broward County, an additional 1% is typically charged. With this new law, businesses leasing space in Broward County should see their invoices drop by 3% come October 1st.
